In readiness for the new season, the playing surface at The Den is being dug up and relaid.
Speaking to the official site after the investment, Head Groundsman Dave Bradbury-Shaw said.
'The first stage is to remove the old turf. The top layer has come off because the irrigation staff will come in to install pipework for our new state of the art pop up sprinklers. Trenches will be dug and once the pipes are in there will be more digging in preparation to lay the state of the art fibre sand. This is different to the usual sand we use as it is literally reinforced fibres, which means that the pitch will drain a lot easier. We will then seed the entire surface and use grow lights, these help stimulate growth.'
He adds that further investment has been made to upgrade the lawn mower equipment, so over the course of the season fans should see a much better playing surface.
