'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lomas Out, Harris Temporarily In

Well it was coming, Steve Lomas has been relieved of his duties and Millwall have announced that Neil Harris will take charge for the game against Doncaster.

The news was announced following the Boxing Day hammering by Watford, and a brief statement from CEO Andy Ambler said.

'We are very disappointed that it hasn't worked out for Steve. He has been thoroughly professional in his approach to the job and remains a very promising young manager. However, the board feels that it's in the best interests of Millwall that we make the change at this time.'

The club are again now searching for a new manager.

Coach Neil Harris and Academy Director Scott Fitzgerald now take immediate charge of first team matters and held their first training session today ahead of the Doncaster game.

Skipper Paul Robinson has said that the players need to knuckle down now and get right behind our caretaker managers and stop putting in the performances that led to Lomas' eventual sacking.

'The results we've produced have led to Steve's dismissal, which is disappointing. Now we have to get behind Chopper and Scott and give them our best efforts.'

Robinson adds that he feels that this is one of the best squads Millwall have had during his time with us and it's about time they starting living up to that and ensure that we keep our Championship status.

Speaking after the announcement was made, Harris said for himself.

'I was sad for myself and the staff that Steve's gone. He brought me back into the club and I enjoyed working with him. However, results drive this business and ours haven't been good enough.'

Harris seems to rule himself out of the job, as he says his short term aim is to prepare a team to get something from the Doncaster game, but longer term he's looking forward to continuing as our reserve coach and then helping out with first team duties as required.

As for potential replacements, Newport boss Justin Edinburgh has now been linked with the role. Neil Warnock is being touted as a short term replacement until the end of the season and Steve Claridge has declared himself as the right man for the job.
