Forde Keen On New Deal
Having secured our Championship status for next term, goalkeeper David Forde has said that everything was on hold until we had completed our campaign but now that we have, he fully expects earlier initial talks to presume.
The Republic of Ireland international is out of contract in the summer but was recently voted Player of the Season by the fans in our disappointing season this year, and Forde admitted to News Shopper that keeping another clean sheet in front of the Chairman certainly did no harm to his hope that he'd be between the sticks again in 2014-15.
'My contract finishes so we'll have to have a chat. We had spoken briefly and the aim since Ian came in was to get safe and then we would talk.'
Forde admits that obviously the players hadn't wanted to ensure survival this late in the season, but it was the aim and we obviously achieved that.
'Keeping a clean sheet helps and making a few saves with the chairman watching was an added bonus. But besides me, I'm just delighted for the club and every here. I was very emotional coming off the pitch so hopefully we can get something sorted.'
Forde did talk about next season and he fully believes that we can enjoy a successful campaign under manager Ian Holloway now because of the foundations he's put in place, his expectations and demands of the players and obviously in the last few weeks we have seen the benefit of that work starting to take shape, so our keeper wants to be here in what he thinks will be a bright future for us, as he knows what a run, like the one we have been on that helped us to safety, would do for the club if we managed to achieve that from the opening day.
Finishing the last eight games unbeaten is no small achievement, especially given where we found ourselves in the table, so doing that from the start would certainly have us up the league and looking at what we could maybe achieve.
