Ferguson's Promotion Confidence

Ferguson's Promotion Confidence

Shane Ferguson has said that the Millwall squad are confident they can go one better than this time last year and secure promotion back to the Championship at Wembley.

We face off against Bradford City at the national stadium at 3pm this Saturday in the League One Play Off Final and with successive Play Off shots in the last two years, and notably last season's disappointment, Ferguson was confident we could go one step further this time of asking.

Speaking to the official site as he previewed this weekend's action, the Northern Ireland international explained.

'Last year was a hectic end to the season. There was a lot of stuff going on. It was a disappointing end to our season, but hopefully we can be better this time round. We watched ourselves back and knew we could do better. We had injuries on the day - maybe that didn't help - but this year we're looking to go one step further.'

With only two defeats in the last nine matches we go into the game in good form and Ferguson went on to say that confidence was also extremely high going into the game.

'The lads have done great this year. People were writing us off earlier in the campaign, saying that we might not be able to do it again, but we've done really well. The way we've played after Christmas has been unbelievable - it shows the character of the boys in the squad. The confidence from the way we got into the Play-Offs on the final day at Bristol Rovers carried through into the Semi-Finals against Scunthorpe United and is still there now. We've had a lot of big game experience this season with the FA Cup run - we'll be using that to our advantage at Wembley on Saturday.'

Since joining from Newcastle United back in 2015, Ferguson now has 97 appearances to his Millwall name and he ended by saying how it had been a good move for him, with him certainly developing well as a player in the process.

'It's been one of the best decisions I've made in my career, coming to Millwall. I've learned so much and the experience of playing at Wembley is unbelievable. It's where dreams come true - hopefully we can get that victory and realise ours. The focus when I came here was to get to The Championship. The way we've been playing this season, especially after Christmas - there's no reason why we can't be there next year.'
