Elliott To Seize Chance & Sets Target

Elliott To Seize Chance & Sets Target

Summer signing Tom Elliott has said he's ready to seize his chance at Millwall and he does have a goal target in mind for the campaign.

The 26 year old came in from Wimbledon earlier in the summer and put pen to paper on a two year deal at The Den, but making his debut in the EFL Cup clash against Stevenage, he impressed plenty with a brace taking us to victory and whilst he acknowledged competition was certainly tough with Lee Gregory and Steve Morison at the club, he was here to play.

Speaking to News Shopper during the build up to the game this weekend against Bolton Wanderers, Elliott insisted he hadn't made the step up in divisions simply to make up the numbers.

'I knew they are two great players. I want to play and take every chance I get, but I`m here to learn off those two as well and learn off the gaffer. The more I can learn the better chance it gives me to play more games. I do want to play, I`m not going to hide that. But I l know they are two great strikers who score goals, eighteen and nineteen last season. I`ll never sulk, I`ll always keep working hard and when I get my chance I`ll take it. I`m 26 now and I think I can keep going and keep learning. I hope I can make myself an established Championship striker and an established Millwall striker.'

Bolton could see Elliott partner Morison up front given Gregory's substitution against Stevenage with a hamstring complaint and if he gets the nod he'll be up for it.

'I haven`t played up front with Moro yet but I`d love to because he`s a clever player. In training, he talks to me and gives me guidance. If the gaffer puts me on the team sheet I`ll be buzzing, but if he puts me on the bench I`ll be shouting in his ear to put me on! I played against Bolton last year. They`ve got some big defenders but if Moro and I play up front we`d frighten a few defenders. If it`s coming off the bench or starting I`ll be raring to go.'

Talking about goal targets and the like for the year, Elliott also had praise for manager Neil Harris.

'He`s been great for me, I`ve never done so many shooting drills in my life and he`s always joining in. That`s a great thing for me, he wants his strikers to put the ball in the back of the net. Over my career that`s the one thing I`ve lacked. I`ve been a threat to defences but once you go into the higher leagues you have to start to add goals to your game.'

He went on to say.

'You have to get into double figures. I did it last year and am hoping to do it again this year. I want to see where I can go. The gaffer works with us, we do so many striking sessions a week, so he makes it easier for us to be comfortable in front of goal because we’re used to it in training. I want to have a successful season with Millwall and get into double figures. That would be a good goal for me.'
