Harris Still Targeting Two In January

Harris Still Targeting Two In January

Millwall manager Neil Harris has restated his desire to bring in at least two new players during the January transfer window.

With Harris yet to add to the squad having talked previously about needing to be patient until deals fell into place as the month progressed, he told News Shopper that there had been an element of 'bad luck' in the deals we're tried to get over the line so far, but two players remain the priority.

'I definitely want to bring two in. It`s never been an absolute must that we must bring two players in, one player in or three players in. It`s been can we add to what we`ve got? Can we make our squad better? Can we get the right players? We`re certainly trying hard to get the right players.'

Harris went on to say.

'We've had some really bad luck in the transfer window so far. Some players have been very close to coming in, but they've had an upturn in fortunes at their clubs, which is good for them in some ways, not for us. One minute you're close to doing something and the next minute it seems a million miles away. That`s the January transfer window, it`s completely different to the summer. There`s so much uncertainty. It`s a seller`s market and clubs at the top of the Championship and lower half of the Premier League, they're continuously changing their players and starting elevens. Players that are available, a week later they're not available. I understand that, I have no problem with that whatsoever. It`s what makes January so difficult. We keep going with the targets we've got.'

Harris did go onto say that despite the press speculation indicating that a striker was a priority for him following injury to Tom Elliott leaving only Steve Morison and Lee Gregory available as forward options for most of the campaign so far, a striker wasn't a priority in his mind but attacking options in general were owing to Shane Ferguson's own lengthy lay off seeing Jed Wallace and Aiden O'Brien hardly get a break.

'I read quotes that a striker is our priority but no. I`m really happy with my strikers. We need attacking options, definitely. I need defensive cover at centre-half, someone who can walk straight into the team and perform at the level that Hutch and Coops have. Attacking wise I need more options, Fred Onyedinma is definitely a centre forward who can play in wide areas, Tom Elliott has not been fit for a period of time consistently. But without Shane Ferguson, I`ve had Aiden and Jed as the only two players capable of performing in wide areas.'

Ferguson has now however returned to full training after being out for the last six weeks so that'll ease some pressure.
