Till proud to be Millwall chief

Stewart Till says becoming Millwall Chairman was one of the proudest moments in his life and now he believes he can take the club he loves back to the Championship.

Till took over last summer and his first act in charge was appointing Nigel Spackman as manager, but as he admitted to the South London Press, times under Spackman did not go to plan: "When it`s good, it`s magnificent. But when it`s bad, it`s horrible," he said.

"Being turned over by Chesterfield 5-1 was undoubtedly the darkest hour. Even in our worst nightmares, we never dreamt that would happen."

Till also described the rollercoaster that Willie Donachie took the Lions on, as the season drew to a close: "Having won at Yeovil, Oldham and Blackpool we then went to Bournemouth and we seemed to think it would be easy."

"The disappointing thing was that we didn`t fight and dig deep or do the things Willie believed in - and suddenly the gap between us and the play-off places was too big."

With last season now a distant memory, Till believes the signings of Danny Spiller and Gary Alexander are a step in the right direction, with more signings hopefully on their way.

But it`s the financial side of the club that Till is most proud of and he believes that Donachie now has the spending power to put together a promotion winning side:

"I feel we are in a much better financial position that most League One clubs with John Beryslon," he added.
