Self assessment and FB cuts had to come home to roost.
The fire resistance qualites of the cladding look very dodgy.

Did they use the cheapest they could get away with?

As reported by the BBC '' fortunately it was Ramadan so many were still awake eating a late meal''...so could have been a lot worse.

BP,

Without the cuts would it have made any difference? Does a building of this size have an L1 or L2 system fitted retrospectively? Is that even practical?

Have you ever attended anything like or close to this? I can't think of a worse fire in the UK, or of a worse way to go.

One image looks like a scene from the Towering Inferno film, only worse. As in the film, "the idiots want to build so high that we can't reach"

I don't know what it's like in the UK these days, but over here everyone loves this plastic type double glazing windows. I think they're horrible and hate them, some people even have them as internal doors, and it seems reports suggest old buildings fitted within these are not much safer after, wooden double glazing would be much better. So much for a £10 million refurbishment with the cladding, perhaps they left a method out as it looks the fire went up the side. That shouldn't be possible should it?

So proud of our firefighters.

If it is a kitchen appliance I truly hope we throw the book at the manufacturers. It's disgraceful that multinational companies put profit before safety. How much would it cost to refund all owners of unsafe appliances with a voucher for a new machine?

Just waiting for the Mayor to say "it's a big city, you have to expect big fires and deaths"
