Wasn't we rumoured to be signing this guy about 3 or so years ago for £250,000 when he was at Luton. What a profit we could've made. How the hell is he worth 18.5 million.

I remember him playing against us in the FA Cup a few years back and wasn't that impressed. Had pace but little else.

Clearly, one shouldn't under-estimate the importance of pace in the Premiership.

And the Championship as were gonna find out this season...enlargement of the squad doesn't add the quality needed to win games

Andre Gray
Nahki Wells
Jason Puncheon
Charlie Austin
etc etc etc

All players in very recent times we didn't stump up the money for and look where they've ended up.

Seeing he's now 46 and hasn't kicked a ball in twelve years, little above £50 I should think....

If my memory is correct was it not the case that Purser/Fenton would not go the additional 2 or 3 grand to secure the services of Kevin Keegan i think it was rumoured at the time we bid £21000 or was that just an urban myth

This is correct, I remember this happening at the time and I thought who the hell is Kevin Keegan from Scunthorpe another tosser, and the rest is history as they say. Scunthorpe were looking for £30,000 at the time and he ended up going to Liverpool for £35,000 they obvioulsy put a little bit on when Liverpool came in. I remember another time when Micky Quinn was meant to be signing for us as well.

A bit of both I suppose, I suspect any player that shows a bit of potential in this division will attract interest. The big if's, Fred gets a run of games, the consistency comes and he does what he did against Leicester and a few others then yes.

I thought the Fred of last season was an improvement on the previous, if he goes again and we are somewhere near successful-mid table-his power and running even without that end product will have someone taking a punt.
