Random quote: No one would have believed that in the last years of the 19th century that human affairs where being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet across the gulf of space minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely they drew there plans against us. At midnight on the 12th of August a huge mass of luminous gas erupted from Mars and sped towarts Earth - The Journalist - War of the Worlds

As we keep being reminded, football was invented 25 years ago.

I am sure the younger generation have been brainwashed into believing before the Premier League there was this great big void: a sporting nothingness.

Well, of course we Denizens know better. So going back beyond the last 25 years, who can answer this question:

Which was the last club to win the Football League's top flight without employing a manager: the side was selected by committee.

Club and season please.

Pretty sure Forest was run by a Committee in the 50/60/70s - but I think that was instead of a Board of Directors.

This is going to be difficult without Dr Google - could we not just have a peep for sixty seconds?

That sound like a good answer.

I think the fatal flaw in the Dalglish answer is the "manager" in the player/manager bit...

I've been ploughing through my Charlie Buchan's Football Monthy's all afternoon.

Would I be correct in saying that the Club once shared their ground with a County Cricket side?

Sadly, the cheating Parsley was correct: Everton 1938/39.

You don't get a Milk Tray while Percy gets a Toffee...

BP...the Jean-Paul Sartre of MO.

Why is it you Frenchies just can't stop banging on about existentialism...?

Neither Carlisle nor Northampton have won the Football League, you may not be surprised to hear. But one did qualify and actually play in the FA Charity Shield. Which club, when and how?
