....is the wrong answer....

OK: final clue. It has something to do with the statistics regarding Pat Glover scoring 42 goals in 39 games that season....

If It was just in that one match then Whisky wouldn't have mentioned his goal scoring record over the season.
We got relegated that year, what could be more humiliating than that?
I give up,
This better be good though!

In fact Glovers stats are a complete reverse of ours, he scored 42 in 39, we scored 39 in 42...

We must have scored more than 42 in a season.

Well done KoJ...!!! The winner with six minutes to go: you were just playing with them...!!! Hope you can fly in from Seattle in time to pick up that very kind Mr Galloway's ticket, mate....!!!

Yes, in the 1933/34 season Millwall scored a pathetic 39 goals in their 42 League games - the entire side totalling three less than one Grimsby Town player, Pat Glover, who netted 42 times in 39 appearances....including three against us!!

How bloody humiliating is that....?

Thanks Whisky. Yes - I am assuming that DJ is including a 1st class transatlantic flight, topless stewardesses and hotel stay with the prize. I am packing my bag and will see you all in 12 hours.

No, SE1. You've got a little confused, mate. On November 4th 1933 Pat Glover played for Wales in Dublin and scored in a 1-1 draw in the Home Internationals (which Wales won!). On the same day Millwall lost 1-0 at home to Grimsby.

Later in the season Millwall travelled to Grimsby and lost 5-2 with Pat Glover helping himself to a hat-trick.

Grimsby finished the season as Champions of Division 2 with 103 goals scored. Pat Glover topped the division's charts with 42 goals from 39 appearances.

Millwall finished second to bottom and were relegated have scored just 39 goals in 42 games, a humiliating reversal of Glover's figures...

Poor old SE1......You see what confusion you cause, Whisky with your difficult quizzes?

Never mind an old codgers' thread, we may as well have an old codgers' board.

What is a codger anyway?
