Poor old SE1......You see what confusion you cause, Whisky with your difficult quizzes?

Never mind an old codgers' thread, we may as well have an old codgers' board.

What is a codger anyway?

Basically means an old bloke, but a less than respectful term and could mean he has a bit of the eccentric about him.

couldnt have been a lot cause grimsby beat us 1-0 at the den unless he scored the winner

Glover did score that day (4th November 1933). But not for Grimsby...he scored for Wales in their 1-1 draw in their home international fixture in Belfast.

The winner scored against Millwall was by his understudy, Wally Ponting, one of only three League goals he scored for Grimsby in six years!

No, Glover's feat was much more impressive than getting a hat-trick, Robbie!

Errrr.....ummmmm...... Sorry, SE, not quite with you, mate! This was one of my first answers in the quiz....

Oh, I see I did say Dublin at 10pm... in my overall summary. I was exhausted by then and close to brain dead. As you would have been if dealing with an Internet connection that worked for two or three minute periods every quarter of an hour... Anyway, the point is: all the clues were there....

As a sub question was Pat Glover per chance related to Len of Charlton fame?

Just left home on my way to the Bleck (South African accent) country, that is where Wolves is located, right?

No relation, Fire.

By the way: last time I saw Len Glover he was playing for Shepshed Charterhouse in a Leicestershire Senior League game at Melton Town back in the late '70s....!

Try and find a Holden's pub for some superb Bleck Country bitter: goes down a treat with a cheese cob. The one in Wolverhampton (the Great Western), a real classic of a place, will have lots of Wolves supporters in it as it isn't far from the ground. But there are a few others dotted around the little towns nearby.

Holden's probably have a website.

Cheers Whisky,

I don't generally drink before games and being a bit of a heathen, only a bit mind, I don't drink bitter. I've tried oh how I've tried it just don't suit. And this may be a bit of an anathema to you, I discovered expensive Vodka a few years ago, taken with ice and a splash of water sometimes carbonated. Compliments the Bolivian flake beautifully.......only joking.

There, I've said it.

With regards to the answer to the quiz.... Didn't the same happen back in the 80's with Kerry Dixon of Chelsea (scored more goals than the whole of our team) if my memory serves me correctly.

In 1989/90 Millwall scored 39 League goals (sound familiar?) in our relegation season from Div 1.

Kerry Dixon (who also scored a hat-trick against us) ended the season with 20 League goals.

So the answers no.

Only just seen this..

At first I thought it may have something to do with Jack Cock and a divisional record - appears not.

This is tricky. Anyone got it yet (not read replies in case I still have a chance of working it out).

Yes the prize has been claimed by our Seattle correspondent.

You better not read the thread until you work it out. Remember: the answer involves the 1933/34 season and Millwall.

Right, so our first ever relegation in the FL and the season we had that showdown with Manchester United...

Grimsby won the title I think from my 'studies'...

Let's think...

If it's about goals then maybe Glover scored more than our entire team to help Grimsby up.

Funny enough I was reading THE book the other day for research and was looking at that season and how struggling for goals we signed James McCartney from Newcastle (just looked to check name). He scored twice on his debut v... Grimsby on that 5-2 defeat. But doesn't sound like he did much after that!
