Am I the only one who thinks he's been excellent this season? In my book his performances have been 2nd only to Saville.

Why am I asking this question? There have been critical threads of him, often stating that Romeo is a better player and on a regular basis he is being rated our worst defender.

Have I missed some major deficiencies in his performance and/or is he taking Williams place as the player who's never going to impress our fans?

Does anyone agree he's been excellent so far?

Purley, you know my thoughts on this as we discussed at Bristol. He is a very good fullback although not as dashing as young Romeo.

Don't think he's as good as Romeo if I'm being honest.

Can be hesitant.

Some good performances just think Romeo is better.

Romeo's positional sense isn't as good, he gets caught too shallow and make up for it with his pace, not sure he could do that in this division. It will be interesting to see when he gets his chance how he does against the better opposition, he could be explosive.

McLaughlin is way ahead of Romeo right now, a much better defender but Romeo gets forward more, I said before the start of the season that we have options in each position

McLaughlin stays back and Romeo gets forward, same with Craig and Meredith

McLaughlin has been a great player and I don't think we would even have the points we do had Romeo been in the team.

I think he's been poor. Always looks half asleep and doesn't get forward or isn't as quick as Romeo. Seen CMcG get beat too easily by wingers although doesn't get any protection from Wallace or the RM. In the league 1 team of the year but not all that

Would like to see Romeo play in front of McLaughlin and bomb forward with his pace knowing McLaughlin will be there to do the defending

I think it's a fallacy that Romeo gets forward more than McLaughlin. I would say Conor's managed to get to the opposition's byline 8-10 times this season more than Romeo did all last season. The main difference is Conor gets forward by good movement and stealth and Romeo like a cavalier.

Conor has been a constant member of the Northern Ireland team that have won, I think, 5 on the trot without conceding a goal.

Ignoring the fluke Ipswich game, we have conceded 3 goals in 7 games.

It can't be just coincidence!

I have been impressed with him. He doesn't panic, is very steady and when the chance presents itself he can support the attack. He gets little protection from Wallace and if he bombed forward and got caught out then he doesn't have the pace to recover like Mahlon.
Rest assured, suspension, injury, loss of form will let Mahlon back in and then we will be able to see how well he copes.
I know that the Northern Ireland team are no world beaters but there surely has to be a connection between the fact that he played both recent qualifying games, they are on the cusp of the play offs and must fancy their chances of making it to Russia. He was a great signing for us in the summer.

Defensive midfielders are our problem, most goals scored against us have been from distance due to the midfielders not defending in the area,s between the back line and midfield, which is also the reason our full backs have no cover.
I think the reason Harris signed Tunnicliffe is to counter this, when he is fit.

I said the same thing in the 'today' thread.

Championship teams only need two or three long range shooting chances a game in order to score.

The only way to try to reduce opposition shots from outside the area is to play three CM's or three CB's.

Both new full backs are earning their money.

Remember last season when we tried to suggest what team might turnout on a Saturday?
There was always a debate about TC, Romeo, Ferguson, midfield helping out etc etc.
The bottom line was everyone agreed we needed a new left back and a new right back.
We got them.
They are both playing well.
Discussion over, the defence picks itself, and others have to wait for their chances when they arise.
