Purley, Harris made the substitutions after our second goal didn't he?
So that's what we are talking about here. It was when he changed the system Williams should have come off. He was on a booking so it was dangerous to leave him on & take Wallace off and Tunicliffe is best suited to sitting in the middle.
Not Williams fault as such but it wasn't rocket science (let's face it even Jimmy would do a better job faced with the onslaught last night)

It looked to me that Harris switched, in effect, to 5-3-1 with Cooper slotting in the middle. If Wallace had been retained he would have been one of the 3, so we should be asking "who is more likely to make a tackle Williams or Wallace?". Williams defends differently to our other midfielders but that doesn't make him any less effective. For me Saville had his 2nd consecutive poor game and was charging around like a bull in a china shop without actually making a successful tackle.

Unfortunately it has always been the case that many of our fans prefer blood and thunder to astute, hence the Romeo is better than McLaughlin brigade piping up in the last week. I think McLaughlin silenced that group last night but doubt those that prefer Ben Thompson type players to Williams will ever change

Romeo could have replaced McLaughlin after he was booked. Or Craig for Meredith if Meredith was struggling.

The thought of Romeo facing up to Lua Lua would worry me. The thought of Craig replacing Meredith would make me suicidal

What the hell is Williams doing booking Purley?

He'd be better just concentrating of the game in hand and banging in a couple of goals.

Prick.

And the point is?

The point is, surely someone at the club can try to teach him to tackle?
He averages a booking every 3 games and nearly all of them are from cutting across players because he's either too slow or unwilling to make a "proper" tackle.
Last night he did the same thing but this time the ref waved play on & QPR nearly scored a goal. Then the ref booked Williams afterwards.
The point is, he didn't even stop the play & still got booked!
We know what he's good, he set up the goal & he's been playing Ok but he wasn't worth keeping last night on as even if he miraculously learnt to tackle he couldn't take the risk & in the last half hour every ball was lumped up to Morison.
So good substitutions?
We were two up and only drew and if the free kick that hit the bar at the end had gone in we would have lost! Maybe I'm missing something?
P.s. Nothing personal, just a difference of opinion

Yeah Whiskey_Lion all your threads/posts are like you are writing some kind of novel, you're like our very own John Motson using a 1000 words where 20 will do!..????

Really?

Fuck me,it was meant in jest, yout oosts are a good read, all bit touchy yhis morning aren't we and that goes for the others that had their sau.

Partisan, mate, I was having some fun with you: genuinely laughed when I read your insult!

Really?

Yes, Paris. Even my PA asked what I was laughing at! I have had a few dealings with Motson over the years. As one of his ITV rivals described him to me once: "a difficult fellow". Not half... Yes, that reference to "Goldfinger" as he used to be known among colleagues (for hilarious reasons I really don't want to go to on here) really was a below-the-belt insult if ever there was one...the second to last person I'd ever want to be compared to...
