The Fall and Fall of Josh McVoid...

Anyone remember our splashing out what was believed to be in excess half a million quid for Northern Ireland International Josh McQuoid?

His signing from Bournemouth was seen as a statement of intent as the lad had just celebrated his 22nd birthday and was believed to be destined for great things.

Tonight he turned out (still aged only 27) for Torquay United in their "Conference" fixture against Maidenhead Utd. Torquay, for those who don't study such matters, are bottom of the table.

Perhaps help explain our chairman's understandably cautious nature when it comes to spending.

McQuoid scored zero in over 60 games playing in league 1 & 2. Then had a goal blitz in league 1, scoring 12 in 19. Which prompted Jacket to sign him.

Missed an open goal header on his debut. Played ok in a 3-0 win against Palace. But who didn't ?

Used to fall over at least once a game, when on the ball & no one near him. Only scored once against relagated Preston.

Played for some decent teams like Burnley & Bournemouth after Millwall. Was never a prolific scorer for them. Maybe he had other qualities as a midfielder which I never saw.

Mcquoid was signed around the same time Puncheon was on loan. Southampton demanded a fee for Puncheon when his loan ended. Suspect the club could have afforded it if McQuoid had not been signed.

He was a very curious case, Adam. And I vividly remember that missed header...

I had a long chat with Jason Puncheon after he scored that hat-trick against Palace. He was about 75% certain he was signing for us (and about 100% certain he wanted to join)...but said the Southampton manager was being a lot more awkward than he needed to be....

Thought it was a done deal. But after his hat trick against Palace the chances reduced considerably. A pity.

Finished ? He's playing for Palace & has played in every game for them this season in the Premiership. Helping them to zero points & goals.

Come to think of it, he is finished.

If you mean McQuoid's against Preston, it was the only League goal he ever bagged for us...

Malone should only make you shudder when you think of the
money we missed out on. A fine full-back who's had a good
career, but still, this is Whisky we are talking about and he
knows more then all those managers who have signed him.

No. I know as much as the managers who didn't fancy him in the slightest and had no interest in signing him. Which happens to be quite a few...

Anyone got any clues why he has gone down hill so quickly ?
I seem to remember it wasn't the worst debut by a new signing.

Anyone got any clues why he has gone down hill so quickly ?.
Heard it was because he was taking lessons from Franz Klammer
