Our season has taken a very quick turn for the worse!

Hopefully the few that come in step up.

Must be really frustrating for Webster to have this occur near the start of our Championship campaign.

Tony Craig was a good left back for us last year but is a terrible central defender. Cooper will be able to fill Webster's shoes on his form from last years loan spell.

I would think it would be Rooney or Mbulu filling his place on the bench, and that will be good experience.

I'm more concerned about the loss of Williams.

It says Webster will be out for most of the season.

Craig will get game time at CB even if Cooper is preferred. There is no way Hutchinson & Cooper will play every remaining game this season.

Bad loss Cooper to play LCD and Hutch RCD better balance than 2 right footers but not sure of Cooper's ability on the ball. Many criticise Webster's distribution but from what I've seen Cooper's is worse, also his 1st touch is not as good as Webster's. On the plus side, of the 3 CDs he is the one more likely to score from a corner/free-kick.

Despite the negative, Cooper's not a bad replacement for Webster and streets ahead of Craig and, if he was still here, Sid

Finding a way of over-coming William's absence is going to be more difficult. When is Elliott back? If soon, I can see him replacing Morison and us going more direct until William's return. Hope not, but that's my gut-feeling.

Very bad news. Webster did not just have good defensive skills but was a dominant voice on the field of play and will be greatly missed. Fortunately we have Cooper who can fill in his defensive duties but cannot be the same voice on the field. We are also fortunate to have Hutch but hope that he can remain injury free this season. We would be really struggling if he was to lose form or get crocked because, with the greatest will in the world, Craig is no adequate replacement for either of them. Sid likewise could not step up as he was clearly not good enough in L1 and never played regularly last season on loan at Newport. OK, he is making waves at Yeovil but I honestly doubt whether he could ever be a regular first team member for us.
As for Rooney or Mbulu they are not tried and tested at Championship level and to try either would be massive gamble.
Backs to the wall probably accurately describes our situation.

Its about time that they gave Mbulu a chance, he's been at the club a good few years now and warrants a chance. If Copper takes Websters place which he should, then Mbulu should be ahead of Craig for a centre back position on the bench. Rooney must surely be pushing for that place as well. Whats the point in having these youngsters if no one gives them a chance, even from the bench everyone has to start their first team experiance somewhere.

Another option if there are further CB injuries is to try Meredith at CB. A good defender on & off the ball & not slow. Craig can then play LB where he is better.

Colin Cooper had never played CB before joining Millwall. But went on to become a Premiership player. Matt Lawrence played his best football for Millwall after being moved to CB.
