George on his sarsaparilla stall was a lovely man. Good pals

East Street market brings back some memories. A1 Records and that little Sunday stall took
all my money....

Some great pictures.

Yeah, great times standing round that stall listening to " Billy the Lid "
The shop on the Walworth was good too. Remember asking for "The
harder they fall" by Jimmy Cliffe. He said he'd never heard of him but
still ordered it for me.

Great set of photographs, mate.

The most striking thing with all photos of the 1950s and 60s is the lack of parked cars in the streets.

Our street had a hundred houses, but only two cars owners and a woman next door with a Vespa.

No, she was a married with two kids.

I never forgave her for reporting me to my dad about digging a tunnel under her garden.

My mate, Beefy Bullock, lived one door down - we were both digging under Mrs Smith's lawn, with the plan of meeting up in the middle (bit like they did with The Channel Tunnel, some years later). We had wooden orange boxes to shore up the walls and roof.

We were made to fill them back in by our dads - I think we got a bit carried away after watching The Great Escape!

I remember sitting in that ABC at the Elephant during the 90’s, my wife lent down to get something out of her bag and a Rat ran across her hand...

I needed a good laugh, we were watching that ‘Nil By Mouth’.
