King of The Jungle - 25/10/2017 03:42

Only place i can get this is on Amazon video - and they want 60 fucking bucks for the series! I know we moan about the bbc and licence fee etc etc at home... But being here I've realised how lucky we are at home and how cushty we have things really... Not just with telly, which obviously is not very important, but with lots of things. Most notibly healthcare and housing.

Careful King of, careful, you'll begin to sound like a person with views leaning towards the left, you know 'for the good of all' rather than 'I'm alright Jack'.

I don't really know about the US other than having mates that have lived there for 6-12 month periods. They have said the TV news is pretty shit compared to the balanced BBC (their I've said it) , thats before you get into the have's and have not's.

Have you tried hiding your ip address (hide my ass) or one of the many others? I think they charge. If you go via the dark net the beeb will block it.

Ha! Funny you say that FW! I was only saying to someone last weekend that i feel like I'm developing socialist leanings here (i'm not - but comparatively compared to the uk i suppose i am). The 'rich get richer while the poor get poorer' brigade in the UK would have a complete meltdown here - it's nothing in the UK compared with here. If you're poor in the uk and get cancer you still get treated. Here the poor don't; instead they make a sign and stand at the traffic lights in pissing rain hoping to be handed a few dollars. I had to go to the docs last year as i had swollen lymph nodes in my neck for quite a long time - Bang 600 fucking bucks thankyouverymuch! Luckily insurance covered most of it but many people here can't afford insurance and certainly can't afford 600 bucks when they're struggling to feed their family. When I'm back home i will never again take for granted the fact that if I'm ill i can go and see a doctor without checking my bank balance first; or other related stuff like affordable motor insurance.

The news? Don't get me started on the news mate. The news here is basically like watching John Craven's Newsround. It really does appear to be written for children, it is so simplistic and repetitive, more the newscasters having a nice chat with each other and having a dig at rival networks (CNN having a go at Fox and vice versa) rather than any type of serious reporting. It really is no wonder that septics are so ignorant of the outside world - its like they are fed constant state spinsored propaganda aimed at 7 year olds.

PurleyLion - 24/10/2017 22:11

Ended last night. Totally hooked me from start to finish.

I found myself shaking my head in disbelief at the length politicians go to hide the truth and their incompetence. Well over 2m killed and for what?

Thanks for the steer KB.

Some of those Nixon telephone conversations were just unbelievable..

That series was some of the best TV I have seen in a long while. I had forgotten about the Vietnamese boat people turning up everywhere.

Just caught up with the last few episodes (& if you only have time to watch one then watch episode six)
Surely (along with "The Word at War") the best documentary series ever made? Everything I remember as a kid, the napalm girl, the bloke having his head shot off live on TV, the "four dead in Ohio" & the My Lai massacre plus the mind boggling politics if it all.
The sad thing is that it still goes on all over the world, we've learnt nothing.
Any political leader that advocates a war on foreign soil should be made to watch this first!
