Random quote: "Don't let him shoot!" - Jake Kean Blackburn goalkeeper to his midfield during the FA Cup Quarter Final game March 2013 at the Den. This after another shot from Danny Shittu which the keeper failed to hold. (Check out the highlights of Danny's second effort and watch Keans outburst.)

I preferred the game with the magnets on the end of sticks that you moved the metal-bottomed players around on a table-top pitch.

Can't remember the name, but you had more control on the ball - Subbuteo seemed a bit slow and laborious. by comparison.

I think here was a game called Soccerette and another just called Magnetic Football.

Norman Hunter hated magnetic football: he never was any good against the Poles....

When i was a kid i had subbuteo and bought a stand, floodlights and spectators which included a man and a dog, playing with my brothers the game would be abandoned due to rioting in the stand after the first goal was scored or regularly the dog would run on the pitch and attack the referee, great times!!!

You are joking right arthur? Wasn't that the game with the ball in two different colours to determine possession? If I'm thinking of the right game it was utter shit compared with subbuteo.

No. It was the one you push the players head to kick the ball.

You are talking about the same game. It was called Tip Kick or something. You pressed on your player's head to kick the ball, which had two colours. The colour that showed upwards determined possession. King is right though. It was utter balls compared with sub.

Realised that in the office, in the back of a cupboard I've still got my original set.

My best player, note the amount of glue used to repair and the angle of the body, this gave the ability roll around defenders and nick the ball.

Used to have allsorts of rows with my older brother when playing this, not to mention mates that came round.

Years later the samish rows with my son, his mother used to say 'can't you let him win'? I still feel the guilt 20 years later that I couldn't.

Perhaps when we all roll-up at your gaff next Summer, we could have an inter-house competition - I bags Whisky!
