Careful where you are taking this, the FA will have Millwall up on a tin poisoning charge .

You're opening a can of worms.

My dear old dad remembered Morton's Factory - He said they made Jam, Marmalade and Tinned Meats . A lot of it for the Army overseas.

I think it's fair to say you are Millwall through and through Obeney!!

In summary we have discovered over the course of this thread:

Mortons did make jam and other preserves.

But also much else, mostly supplied to the army in cans.

It was the tin-smiths who made these cans that were the main drivers behind setting up Millwall Rovers.

However, Millwall Rovers were not a works team, more a team set up by workers at Mortons.

Finally, Whisky has very posh jam.

whiskylion - 22/10/2017 11:08

Will journalists and broadcasters ever go into detail to explain the intricacies of 19th century social and working practices when talking about Millwall, especially just prior to a live football match? Probably not.

Good info there tho - you are right re more stuff coming to light re Mortons, found an interesting (for people like us) site just now. How you researched Lions of the South without the internet (not wiki, but easy to access public records etc) I will never know!! Labour of love!

That's all very well & good Moody but now they have invented the Internet you'd think he'd get round to updating the bloody thing, the book's 30 years out of date ffs!

It's a history book. Unless new research comes up disproving a point, how can it be out of date?

Besides, as a professional writer where will I make most money? Updating Lions of the South or writing whisky books that sell in their hundreds of thousands? Tough one...

I refuse to use an emoticon and people automatically thinking I'm looking for a scrap....well one or two do. When I really am having a good laugh.

No, Only has an entirely valid point. Basically, I'm a lazy cunt.

No falling out here Paul, I was just trying to give Whisky a kick up the backside! (It didn't work)
I actually read out a passage from the book at my Dad's funeral (who needs the Bible when you've got Millwall?)
For which I will be forever grateful to him.

I did not really think you were spoiling for a fight.
I was just trying to liven up the debate in the traditional Childeric fashion from my youth.
