We still desperately need a good striker, should have signed one in the summer. Someone converting our chances will keep us up,
We willhave to spend a few quid on one so it depends how much the owner wants us to stay up.
Any other positions needed?

I think a striker is the only missing link, we could do with some more strength in depth however but this isn't essential at present.

There are 8 strikers at the club I know of.

Brymora & Twardek won't get a look in. Smith can get recalled but again is unlikely to get a look in.

That leaves 5 strikers, Morison, Gregory, Elliot, AOB & Fred.

If there is someone better within our budget Harris thinks is worthy of signing, then sign him.

It doesn't have to be a big money permanent signing & can be a loan signing until the end of the season.

Claridge scored some important goals in McGhee's promotion season, after being signed on loan until the end of the season. Even Jason Price scored 3 goals which helped the club to 9 points after Jacket signed him on loan.

Dion Dublin while on loan scored 4 goals which helped the club get to the Championship play offs. Mark Mccammon scored 2 Championship goals during his end of season loan.

Players signed on loan will want to impress in order to get a contract. Claridge, Mccammon & Price all did enough to get contracts. With mixed results.

The most successful striker loan must be Chris Wood. With 11 Championship goals in 19 games.

This was not a loan until the end of the season. More a mid season loan. However his goals still helped prevent relegation.

Harry Kane was signed on loan until the end of the season. He scored 9 goals in 27 games.

Twardek, Fred & AOB are viewed as wide players. The young Aussie is learning. Smith needs to adrees his attitude. Morison is ageing but can chug out a decent performance here and there. Gregory has excellent build up and link up play, but couldn't finish his dinner, he's not a goalscorer. Elliott is a target man. We need a nippy forward, that can take half chance, not easy to find as everyone wants one.

If we had an out and out goalscorer, we would be play off contenders (baring major injury problems)

Would like to see a forward, centre back and a winger brought in!

Scott MacDonald is averaging a goal every other game for Dundee United and scored 24 in 83 games for Motherwell!

Coldblower's right. Still not sure that striker is Elliott, either. A loan in Jan would be wonderful. How about Austin?

I think we need defensive and midfield cover too.

Scott MacDonald was a proven Championship goal scorer when signed by Millwall. With 37 goals in 3 seasons for Middlesborough. He had also scored a lot for Celtic.

Still in his 20's he should have continued that form at Millwall. But Holloway played him out of position & the team were not very good.

At 34 it's very doubtful MacDonald could score again in the Championship. He wasn't exactly Teddy Sherringham at Middlesborogh although playing in a team challenging at the top.

Macdonald is now seeing out his career in the Scottish Championship. After scoring 11 goals for Motherwell last season in the Scottish Prem.

A pity it didn't work out at Millwall as at the time it seemed like a decent signing on free.

The Scott MacDonald suggestion wasn't serious, it was a throw away wind-up. I'm surprised some took the bait

A Harry Kane, Chris Wood type loan signing would be good. If Jacket could do it, why not Harris ?

If not, getting a Dublin or Price type loan signing would be fine. The goals they scored between them while on loan helped the club get 15 points from 5 games. Dublin also scored in the play offs against Birmingjam.

Stay as we are, use what we've got and stay up, possibly a loan central defender. Sort our targets for next summer, look at the best players from Div 1 that can step up and out of favour championship players.

Pretty much what we did last summer.

I dont know but got a sneaky feeling that Smith will be the one to surprise us all How many full games has he started ? Iknow last season it was against some pony sides but his goal ratio is nearly 100 % i was impressed with his laying off the ball and his positional play If he keeps scoring someone will come in for him odds on Think he will play better with the way we are playing just think Harris will regret it if he gets rid

Although I agree we need to unearth a nugget ( a regular goalscorer on a shoestring budget), I still feel we are a one dimensional side, and if the plan don't work the best we can hope for is a draw. We need a playmaker in midfield, someone who can both spray the passes around and can dribble through the centre when and if the need arises. This of course will never happen since NH has all his eggs in one basket insisting that all his team work and then work some more. Sure the players need to put in a stint, but sometimes a little bit of guile is what is needed to unlock defenses, not just battling tactics. No disrespect to the manager, but an Anton Otulakowski, Tony Currie, Glen Hoddle type of player would never be seen in a Neil Harris team - Just hope I am wrong.
