at this rate, we will be in a fight just to stay up.
:sadno:

Or score a goal..... (scrub that, we are already in a fight to score a goal).

Proper bollocks all round yesterday (from manager and players).
Yesterday was like one of those terrible B-Movies - "Return of the (not so killer) Hoofball".

cheers silver.

waht got me almost as much as the result was our "tactics" after they scored.

it must have literally been "get the ball and wack it up to morison/elliot". NOTHING else. literally, get the ball and play it long to them.

i know our limitations, i love a long ball as much as anyone else, but christ, it was as one dimensional as a one dimensional thing or some such shit.

eliot to start. he didn't score yesterday but we looked more dangerous with him on. i'd also try and use fred more. we look so Joe average at the moment. no quality. none to make the killer pass or beat the full backs.

it's gonna be a tough season, but i still think we will fullfill our goal of staying up.

Some of Elliots impacts so far -

Started against Stevenage - scored twice.

Sub appearance v Ipswich - scored.

Sub appearance v Birmingham - set up a goal.

Started against Sheffield Wednesday - scored.

Sub appearance against Burton - flick on to give Fred a chance.

He's an experienced pro so doesn't need to be wrapped up in cotton wool. Give him 5 starts in a row. Nothing to lose.

Morison or Gregory can still be effective impact subs. They have enough experience to make a difference off the subs bench, with their runs into good positions.

People say Elliot isn't the answer & not a 20 goal a season striker.

However he's got 4 goals & another 7 or 8 before the end of the season could ensure survival.

He HAS to start at Sunderland, the lack of goals from Morison and Gregory this season is fucking shocking, what is it two goals between them all season!!!!!

Thanks Silver, your report was spot on. However a knee jerk reaction to this result is not what's required.
Purley, you & I been saying that NH's tactics are inept for years (basic is probably more accurate) The mistake he made yesterday was not to leave at least one wide player on the pitch after the Wallace dismissal. Instead he played three central midfielders so it was left to Hutchinson to hoof the ball up to Elliot instead of someone like Ferguson trying to get in a quality cross.
Should we panic?
Well yes and no. Until Tuesday when he left Morison & Gregory on the bench our season was going better than I and many expected. We played Fred and Elliot Tuesday & lost! (Remember that all the Fred & Elliot platers) I still believe we would have won Saturday if Wallace hadn't been sent off so do last weeks two defeats really point to changing our whole game plan mid season?

OAG, plater here. You forgot to mention that Fred and Eliott played
much better then Morison and Gregory did Saturday.

Maybe Midway, but we lost Tuesday when they started didn't we? Morison holds the ball up better than anyone we've got & is also our best defender when it comes to corners etc.
We all want Elliot to do well but we're very quick to slag off our own players.
Lots of players look good when they come off the bench against tired legs & Fred has failed us more times than he's come good

Saying a player is out of form is a long way off of slagging

Morison and Gregory look good and defend well, problem is in this league your strikers have to score, which neither are doing at the moment from open play. Gregory is also a concern taking the penalties.

I've just come out my 'dark room' after 48 hours and several tots of Woods.

Basically I thought we were poor on Saturday and so were Burton and the referee was even worse.

Sorry OAG but Ferguson was not on the bench, but I do think he could of put Fred on the wing when we lost Wallace.

One of them also managed to score, I think Gregs & Moro have forgotten how

Craywall, thanks for pointing out that Ferguson wasn't on the bench. Although I think my point is still valid about having no one on the pitch to cross the ball to Elliot.
Yes Elliot scored against Sheff Wed but we still lost.
Morison may not have scored this season but we've still done well with him & Gregory in the team. If it wasn't for the sendings off of Gregory & Wallace we would have either 3 or 5 points more and you could argue if NH hadn't changed things round Tuesday we would have got something out of that game as well?
Every season someone says give the kids a chance and this season it's give Elliot a chance but sometimes it's better the devil you know.
We will see I suppose
