Dunne It The Hard Way

Just finished reading Alan Dunne's book. Not a riveting read but interesting and revealing.

A couple of things stood out for me:

1. The only player in Millwall's Ten 10 all-time record appearances list that I can remember some sections of the crowd getting on his back. He deserved better.
2. During his Millwall career he played for 24 managers/joint managers!
3. Over the years many right-backs were brought in to challenge him including: Kevin Muscat, Adam Smith, Ryan Fredericks, Justin Hoyte, Richard Duffy, Ryan Green, Sergie Baltacha, Danny Senda, Maurice Ross, Marcus Bignot, Jack Smith, Glen Johnson and Matt Lawrence but never did he give anything less than 100% for the club.
4. The last Chapter about his Mum is poignant and moving.

I think many of our fans under-estimate what he gave to the club. I hope in the near future he will be back and introduced on the pitch so we can show our appreciation of a true, forget about Orient, one-club man

Decent stocking present for Christmas

How many red cards did he accumulate in his career?... He could have played more games for Millwall if his tackles weren't so unprofessional. Needless to say, not one of my favourite players, his carelessness cost Millwall many a match.

Could have been a real great for us if he had not been moved around the pitch so much
he played LB, RB, CB, RW, RWB, top of a Diamond
Great bloke to talk to.

But his full blooded commitment also helped us win many a game as well John.

10 Reds and 85 yellows, cost us a Champions League place

I'm not doubting his commitment for one second mate, but I can't help but feel that if he wasn't so erratic with some of his tackles, he would have been there on the pitch playing for us when we needed him to be, rather than the 2nd/3rd choice replacement due to his suspension. Just a bit unreliable imo.. shame really.

If Cripps had played in the Dunne era I think there's a distinct possibility that he would have accumulated more Reds than Dunney

In Cripps' day players were allowed to get away with much more than in the last 20 years.

He had effort and guts but lacked the skill needed to be a great. Its a sign of how poor we are that players like him and Abdou played so many games.

If Harry Cripps had been in his prime Dunne would have been sent to Bromley a lot sooner

Rose tinted spectacles?

Totally different game when Harry played to now.
