It makes me laugh how every team that have a tuff time against us put it down to their team having an off day, or that we were very physical.

Unlike the fans Bruce admitted we have a good set of players, and to be fair a number of managers have said the same thing this season.

A good point. I thought we might come away with nothing to be honest.

FireWall - 10/12/2017 07:38

Missed the game due to taking a late, late cheap opportunity to jump a flight to 'the other side', India. Arrived 3 am UK time, not before getting the low down from a couple of mates that were at the game.

Thanks Purley, would you say that we play better against the top sides? Looking at our results and almost more importantly the way we play it seems we are pretty much equal to them.

Hope we can continue this through the December fixtures.

When we play against teams that don't play the high-press or quickly close down our midfield we have the players to use the extra time and space they get. There's no doubt that Villa's players didn't play with the some energy as ours. Perhaps the teams at the top are playing at a slower pace than the rest and that suits us.

Also, apart from Samba, their back 4 (including Hutton an international, albeit Scottish) didn't seem up for any physical challenge as was the case with Forest.

From memory the Forest, Sheffield Utd and now Villa managers have given us credit, sort of refreshing to get an honest appraisal as opposed to standard horrible team-style-place-supporters and so on.

Just watched the extended highlights on iF. We played very well and how e didn't nick all three points is a mystery. Some great chances for Gregory, Wallace and AOB and, on another day we would have put at least one away. A very encouraging performance and the big question is can we keep the momentum going for another seven days and repeat it against Middlesborough. Time will tell.

I had to sit with the home fans with a Villa mate and the ones around were quite complimentary.

They said our defence was excellent and well drilled. Were impressed with how we won nearly every header and second ball. We looked dangerous on the break and were more of a challenge than many sides they had faced. They were most impressed with Romeo, Hutchinson, Saville and Gregory.

Most said they found the monk chant very impressive; some said it was annoying!

From where I was our support was excellent - only quiet in bits.

Many thanks Purley for your take on the game. Three points would have been a better birthday present but I would have taken a point at three o'clock.
It sounded impressive and against a side that have only lost once on their own patch and to keep a clean sheet with a keeper making his debut bodes well. The only disappointment is that we didn't take all three points. Great to see Williams get onto the field of play and I guess the decision was forced upon NH as Fergie is out for six weeks. Also double joy that most of the club's below us lost, Charlton lost at home with an og and Palace could have scored a winner from a penalty at the death but blew it. A happy day!

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson on the injury-time penalty: - "We expected Luka to take it, he's our designated penalty taker".

--------------

Palaces first penalty was expertly taken by Milivojevic. However glory hunter Benteke wanted to be a hero with the second penalty. And missed.

Milivojevic wasn't able to stop Benteke taking the second penalty.

Both are twats.
