Do I take it then, Adam, that you didn't send Big Mick a Christmas card this year....?

"Holloway got sacked & got compensated the amount due in his contract."

Didn't really sit well with his 'I love this club' patter though. Nearly all failed managers depart by 'mutual consent' now.

We could have paid him up until his next football contract but he was determined not to take another role whilst being on good money with us, combining journalism whilst being paid by us.

Who from the Premiership & Championship was not sacked this season ? -

Carvalhal (Sheffield Wednesday)
Monk
Clement
Slutsky (Hull)
Pulis
Bilic
Crayson
Koeman
Shakespeare
Redknapp
De Boer

--------------

People like Monk & De Boer may have got huge pay outs although both were at their clubs a short time.

I doubt there is much discussion on compensation. The manager wants to stay. The chairman wants the manager gone as soon as possible so will just keep to the contract as far as compensation goes. Otherwise the manager can refuse to budge & get lawyers involved.

The nearly 4 million Big Mick spent in 4 years on transfer fees alone would be over 7 million in todays money.

Then you have the other 30 odd freebie players he gave contracts & signing on fees to. Bulking up the squad to 40+ players. Most of these players hung around for several seasons.

So not sure Whisky is correct that Holloway was given Millwall's biggest ever budget in the 14 months he was there. Unless players like Upson & Cummings were paid huge wages. Which is doubtful. His two biggest signings both cost 250k.

I agree that Holloway was paid a kings ransom. Berylson had flown over from America. His plan A was 'get Holloway', his plan B was 'get Holloway'.....

I really don't know much about contract law. What I do know is that every time you see 'mutual consent' it means that the manager has agreed to depart without all his contract being paid off. Moyes didn't take any money at all.

He did have to sell players. None of whom he had signed himself. Except Emblen. He was given money to replace them, but rarely did.

Andy Roberts was sold in the summer & replaced by 6 players that summer costing nearly 2 million - Fuchs, Newman, Bowry, Malkin, Doyle & Bennett. He was then given a lot more money during the season to sign Lavin, Kulkov & Yuran. The result was relagation.

I don't have time to go through all your list but Slutsky departed by mutual consent:

https://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/articles/2017/201718-slutsky-dep...

as did Carvalhal:

So, it can be done. Those managers like Holloway who proclaim that they are in love with the club surely should depart by mutual consent? If the others view it as a job, then fair play to them.

This is my biggest problem with Holloway - it is always, me, me, me. He's a sort of cut-price rural Mourinho.

I agree with you about Big Mick to a large extent. His signings were rubbish and I didn't like the way the players got rid of Rioch. Worse than Holloway? Probably not - but this is only my opinion.

Some balance to my argument. Warburton has just been sacked:

Definitely not.

Chairmen won't sack managers if they can't afford the compensation. Some sackings are not even expected. Such as Rowett at Birmingham & Atkins at Southampton.

Middlesborough's chairmen could have kept Monk until the end of the season. However felt there may be a slightly better chance of promotion under someone else. After spending 40 million in the summer & the potential millions back in the Premiership, paying off Monk & hiring someone else would be a minor expense.

Big Mick did have to sell players mainly to Premiership clubs. However money was spent on replacements within weeks -

Armstrong. Replaced by Bryne, Wallace, Moralee. (Collymore offerred by Palace but rejected).

Cooper. Replaced by Tony Mccarthy, Mcquire & Emblen.

Roberts. Replaced by Doyle, Bowry & Newman.

Kennedy. Replaced by Fuchs & Malkin.

---------------

When these replacements didn't work, more players were signed.

Keller, Thatcher & Rae were sold after relegation.

I'm getting seriously worried about Boy Adam, all this pumping
chemicals into his body is damaging his mind.
I knew Big Mick quite well back in the day as he was a staunch
supporter of the various friends of Millwall fund raisers dear old
Reggie used to help arrange. Yes, he had a brusque nature and
didn't suffer fools gladly(,perhaps the problem Adam has got with
him ?). Any way, I don't recognise some of the traits Adam is labelling
him with.
