Everton was messy. We held up £10 notes at the coach windows just ot let them know what folding money looked like . I think they though we wanted to buy some bricks and they obliged Edgy great days away.

If you agree that Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Everton, Aston Villa, Leeds United and West Ham United are the big clubs of the English game, then the only ones we have not beaten in the FA Cup are:

Manchester United (lost 0-1 in 1953 3rd Round & 0-3 in 2004 FA Cup Final)

Tottenham Hotspur (lost away 2-1 in 1911 1st Round; drew 0-0 and lost 0-1 away in 1967 3rd Round; lost 0-6 away in 2017 QF)

Liverpool (lost 1-4 away in 1896 1st Round and 0-2 at home in 1989 4th Round)

Leeds United (never met in cup)

So, one of those (obviously not Leeds now) would be nice at The Den in the next round - to add to our impressive collection of scalps.

What club have we played the most in the FA Cup?

Whisky?

We've been paired with Arsenal 7 times. With the following record:

P9 W3 D2 L4

And we've been paired with Southampton 6 times - interestingly all but one of those games have gone to a replay, so 11 matches.

So, as Whisky says in the other thread...

Rochdale a potential new cup scalp for us!

Sorry, Moody. That was 1910/11 season - our first-ever FA Cup game as a south London club! I have the actual programme in front of me as I write this!

Did you know the answer to my question Whisky? Who have Millwall played the most in the FA Cup - Arsenal & Southampton were my guesses above. Maybe it's a lower ranked side, somebody we would often face in earlier rounds, like Palace?

Sorry, Moody I missed this question first time round.

You are right: we have been paired with Arsenal 7 times, which is a record.

However, we have played Southampton 11 times, Aston Villa 10, Arsenal and Crystal Palace 9 each, Middlesbrough 8, Derby County, Bury, Northampton Town, Manchester City and Scunthorpe Utd 7 times each.

After Arsenal, we have been drawn out of the bag 6 times against Aston Villa, Southampton, Luton Town, Derby County and Crystal Palace.

Thanks Whisky - so my gut was right. I can just remember playing Arsenal a lot in the 80s and 90s and knew we met them quite a bit back in our heyday too & when I looked it up & saw we had been paired 7 times, I thought that must be close to be the club we have played the most then.

Who are the senior clubs that we have never met in the FA Cup? I've got Leeds United, Blackpool, Carlisle United, Peterborough United, Torquay United and Charlton Athletic.
