Following the good win over arch rivals Barnsley last Saturday in which a number of fringe players were given a start has NH had some sleepless nights about team selection? There are also players that have been out through injury. Is anybody fit to return.? Elliott was only thought to be out for a few days and he has yet to make the bench more than two weeks later. Who has impressed in training this week trying to catch the manager's eye and who has just been a flash in the pan?

The first issue is the goalkeeper. Martin could have done little to stop their only goal, he played well so does he deserve another chance in an important league game? Or does Archer get the vote?
Romeo has been a solid starter in previous league games so did Conor just get a start to show that he challenge Mahlon? Did he do enough to retain his place or does Mahlon deserve his place back as he can add more energy and drive to the right? TC was only a stop gap to give Meredith a day off and his woeful defending in the build up to their only goal was poor. I expect Meredith to regain his place. Hutch and Cooper are as good as we have got at CB and unless an amazing signing happens in the next 24 hours I think they should both start.

Midfield has a couple of big issues and the first surrounds Thompson. It was definitely an improved performance from the lad but did he do enough to retain his place? If so, who do you leave out to make way for him? Wallace played well against the Tykes and Fred would be a poor substitute for him. Williams had that cool composure but who partners him in the middle? Tunnicliffe would have working his proverbials off during the week to prove that he should get a start. And what about Saville? Does he just slot back in or does he have to start on the bench? AOB scored twice so he should get a start.

Fred scored but was that enough to warrant a start up front? And is Elliott fit to make the bench? Gregory looked, lively when he came on and he is Morison's best partner.

My thoughts are,
Archer
Romeo Hutch Cooper Meredith
Wallace Williams Saville AOB
Gregory Morison

Subs Martin TC McLaughlin Thompson Tunnicliffe Fred Twardek

So how do you keep the squad players motivated? Harris himself said he was angry with Norwich second half, changes get made for the cup, squad player has a good game and looks like he's developing well and learning from the better players at the club, so he promptly gets dropped? If I were a squad player and that happened, I'd be pissed off. I've sadi this a few times already this season.

Spot on BL. Thompson put in the kind of appearance every manager wants from someone who has bided his time to get a chance. It would be really poor if this happens tomorrow. Those that wore the shirt against Norwich in a lot of cases let themselves and the club down. Equally lets not forget that Barnsley are a championship side who before playing us had hit form. It's not like Thompson or any of those came in and played against lower tier opposition. Another observation is Williams seemed to be more comfortable and given time on the ball with Thompson alongside him. Bench Tunnicliffe I say for Thompson would be my choice.

The best individuals do not necessarily make for the best teams. And If Thommo keeps his place, it might make Williams, Tunnicliffe and Saville, whoever was left out work harder/play better to get there place back in the team

Almost with Midi on this.

It may seem strange to leave one of best players on the bench, however AOB has to start up top given his two goals, and work with Morison, so Gregory is on the bench to make an impact coming on.

Thompson has to start, he will be well fired up, try Savile on the left or switch with Wallace, we clicked last week when Wallace changed sides.
