MOhican Posts: 1061 Location: senility | The British way of life is slowly being eroded ,the great British boozer is slowly having the life choked out of it .The Manor House in Galleywall Road is now near enough a block of flats and the George in Camilla Road is in the process of being knocked down .Smoking ban ever increasing prices/rents etc or the evergrowing inlfux of non brits unaware of our values ,traditions or these cunts not drinking due to religious beliefs etc . |

| There's no money in pubs anymore.
Anywhere that is on prime development land will be sold off/knocked down in order to make a quick buck.
Nevermind, when the redevelopment happens we'll have a Costa Coffee or something equally as shit. |

Sir MO Posts: 510 | With a regular drinking contingant of about 3, I'm not surprised. As far as I'm aware the gym is basically used as training and education centre for kids with the police and council, not much action fight factory wise!, |

Good what the Lord Clyde does with the community but I agree its not always the busiest of pubs.
What Wanda said is so true! By the time I have kids doubt there will be any traditional pubs/pie & mash shops etc for me to take them to, like my old man has done with me. At least they will get a nice bit of Morleys or a nice one bedroom flat though aye..? |

| I tend not to read the SLP these days, I'd rather not read about the 10 stabbings, 5 shootings and the countless pensioners that have been mugged in the past week.
Its fucking depressing
And that's before I've even read Aldo`s bollocks.

| SLB it's what goes with the teritory of living in the south London of today I'm afraid and as we have seen it's spreading out to likes of Welling so, get use to it or move mate, at least your kids wont live in such a fucking awful social environment of murders, rapes and stabbings.
As for the boozer it's a no-brainer unfortunately ........................
Pub making a pittance or flats generating £k's profit!

| Supermarkets have killed pubs, also changing times, no smoking, costs of a beer now close to £4.00 a pint, muslims dont drink and have taken over large parts of london, and on and on.
The old days have well and truly slipped bye, and the state of the fianances in this country, who can afford £20 for 5 beers when you can but a 12 pack for £10.00. |

Id rather spend 20 quid having 5 pints in the local than sit at home like a total loser drinking 12 cans whilst watching X-Factor. |

I dont follow the crowd!
Not all pubs are empty, some are going along nicely. I'll be giving them my custom tonight anyway.
The government should be helping the pub industry out though, pub is part of the community and should be helped to survive at least .........but i suppose it services that one section of the community where there is no pc credit for helping so why would they bother? |

| Wetherspoons have killed the local pub trade as much as anything else, soulless places selling cheap beer and shit food, Gone are the days when there was a pub on every street corner but truth be told some of them were proper shitholes. It's a great shame as I probably learned more about politics, the second world war and having respect for people from different generations from talking to people in the pub than anywhere else.
Times change and what people expect from a pub goes a bit beyond a couple of games of pool and a packet of pork scratchings. |

| There are still a lot of pubs doing well, but it depends on the location and as Natt says how much they diversiy their business - food, live music, quiz nights etc. Your traditional "sit at the bar with a pint of mild and a snout" pubs are sadly demised. They only survive by attracting a younger clientelle.
Pubs in the New Cross high street area tend to have a steady trade for much of the year becaue of the Goldsmiths crowd, but the Millwall pubs that have closed have been more off the beaten track and didn't generate crowds on a non-match day, much of that is to do with lifestyles of the local community. |

| I agree with much of what has been written, in my day we all sort of had a local where during the week you'd mix with people of all ages. You learned a code of behaviour. At the weekends you'd go to a trendier pub.
These days people drink at hope and watch TV, they don't know how drunk they are getting because they haven't got people around them taking the piss out of their slurred speech or their staggering past the pool table to go to piss. |

| Any pub that charges £4 a pint deserves to be closed down. Up here i pay £1.85 for Abbotts in Wetherspoons and no more than £2.30 in most pubs. The traditional pub is dying as food makes more money than beer. |
