Falkirk 1-0 Lions - Report

Willie Donachie will take the positives from the 1-0 defeat to Falkirk and would agree with most that pre-season is about getting fitness levels up to match standard and not about results.

The team last night was weaker than expected, with the inclusion of Ali Fuseini at right back surprising some. Donachie set up with May and Alexander up top, while Spiller and triallist Diagouraga were to orchestrate play from the centre of midfield.

It was the home team who made the brighter start and on four minutes Falkirk recorded their first shot on goal, all be it a tame one from Arfield which Chris Day held on to with relative ease. Millwall responded well and began to create chances of their own.

Ardley went close with a dipping header, while Robinson's headed effort flew over from eight-yards out. The impressive Spiller let fly from 20-yards after a good ball from Ali Fuseini, but his stinging shot flew just wide of the Falkirk goal.

On 28 minutes, Alexander went close again for the visitors with 'keeper Olejnik keeping the ball out of the net with a low save. The ex-Orient striker had another good chance just before the break, but this time his header was well off the mark.

HT - Falkirk 0-0 Millwall

At half time the Millwall management brought Richard Shaw on for Paul Robinson with a suspected knock, but from then on the Lions defense looked weaker and it was all Falkirk in the second period.

Mountinho was in on goal just before the hour mark, but his scuffed shot went straight to Chris Day in the MIllwall net; however the Lions weren't to be so lucky minutes later.

A deep ball into the Millwall box that should have been delt with was left and Mark Hidgon nodded the ball down into the path of fellow striker MOUNTINHO, who blasted home a fine volley from the edge of the box. 1-0.

Five minutes after the goal saw the introduction of Alan Dunne for Fuseini at right back as Willie Donachie tried to change things with the game drawing to a close.

It was the substitute that nearly carved out the equaliser for the Lions, laying on a perfect ball for Ben May, but with just the keeper to beat the striker fired wide of the mark, all but confirming Millwall's defeat.

Mmm now why would a leeds fan post on our match............. just as i thought though day did better than expected and only let in 1 goal.
Karld
Well last night this was the greatest match report ever of absaloutely nothing. Reads considerably better now though!
LUFC1
Day was impressive.
aldomillwall
Thats why it said report to follow, gawd yorkshire people XD. I agree with aldo, this guy isnt worth a loan deal and we should look elsewhere. My only worry is the lack of goals, im sure once grant zebrowski and hoobz are gone WD will bring in a low key striker who should give us more options. surprised harris didnt get a run out.
Karld
sounds a better performance than the previous two Tartan encounters........bring on Leeds......if they are still here for the new season!
horseworrier
not sure about Zak being good for us next term, he has still to prove himself....but it sounds as though Day had a decent game!
horseworrier
He has been man of the match in one game and performed well in the other. My main fear is the back up we have, i mean shaw is way too old for this league.
Karld
Shaw was brilliant last season, he has at least 1 more year to offer at this level....!
horseworrier
He was good last season but he is not up to it this season, ive already heard that he has struggled with fitness.
Karld
