The men who've shaped Millwall - 2000's

n the early 1880's a group of young lads from Scotland came to London to find work.

hey found employment at Morton's jam factory in the West Ferry Road on the Isle of Dog's and within a few years had formed Millwall Rovers.

On Saturday 3rd October 1885 Millwall Rovers played their first ever game which they lost 5-0 against Fillebrook

As we celebrate Millwall's 125th year, we look at a significant player from each decade who has been part of the history of Millwall FC.

2000's Tim Cahill

Cahill was born on 6th December 1979 in Sydney, Australia to a Samoan mother and a British father.

As a youngster Cahill played football for Balmain Police Boys Club and the Marrickville Red Devils Soccer Football Club.

In 1997, Cahill asked his parents to allow him to travel to England to play professionally, where he was signed by Millwall on a free transfer from Sydney United.

He made his Millwall debut on 22 May 1998 against Bournemouth at The Den.

Cahill was part of Millwall squad, which finished as the runners up in Auto Windscreen Shield, in 1999.

Cahill has great attacking instincts for a midfielder and he is good in air. He scored some vital goals for The Lions during their promotion winning season in 2000/2001.

He scored 13 goals in 2001/2002 season, which is his best tally for a season.

Cahill was instrumental in Millwall`s FA Cup run in 2003/04, scoring the winner in the semi-final against Sunderland which would take The Lions to their first ever FA Cup final, they lost to Manchester United, but Cahill polled over 100,000 votes to win the FA Cup 'Player of the Round` award for Tim Cahill performance during the semi-final victory in that competition and Millwall for the first time qualified for UEFA cup following that performance.

He won the Oceania Footballer of the year award in 2004.

Before the start of the FA Premier League 2004-05, Cahill was transferred to Everton for a fee of 1.5 million, after he had turned down a move to Millwall's South East London rivals Crystal Palace

Cahill has gone on play for Australia at the World Cup and is a key member of Everton's team..
