Millwall vs. Wigan Athletic Match Report

Millwall vs. Wigan Athletic Match Report
A reasonable game of football where we did just enough and they just didn't play well. In fact, they were a shadow of the side that played at Wembley. The two pivotal points in the game were the two saves that Forde made (the one at the end was fantastic!) and the substitution of Waghorn for Easter.

We started well and some poor defending early on let Morison in on the far post and he smashed it in to put us one up. They had more possession in the game than we had. They probed down both flanks with Boyce and the poppy boy looking threatening. Dunne was having trouble containing MacLean but he really didn't produce much exceptt a move which saw an outstanding save from Forde. We were probing down both flanks and Woolford put in Feeney but he couldn't score He had another shot from a corner which flew wide and then, from another corner, Woolford hooked the ball over his own head ran into the box and from 10 yards hit the post with the keeper well beaten.

The second half saw more pressure from them with good possession but no final product. Jimi covered every blade of grass and Trotter looked purposeful but we couldn't make it stick up front and gave the ball away far too many times. On came Keogh for Feeney and then Easter for Waghorn. From the edge of our box we broke up another attack, Trotter took time to control the ball but hit a sweet pass inside their full back. Easter ran on and hit the perfect shot into the far corner. We all breathed a sigh of relief. We had hardly got sat down when their bloke hit a low hard shot through a body of legs and it crept in the corner with Forde beaten. Keogh nicked the ball off their bloke in the box as he was about to pull the trigger and, from another deep cross, Forde made a stunning save to push the ball over the bar as he arched backwards.

There was more huff and puff, a yellow card for Keogh for a robust tackle but we saw it out and claimed three valuable points. We probably played better against Forest with more pressing by Morison and Waghorn and more drive in the middle. I wanted to see some clapping and encouragement from Robbo, and others around him but that was lacking.

My MOM was probably Trotter, closely followed by Beevers, who gave little away or even Forde for the two saves. For them, Holt was poor but McManaman was lightning but didn't come on until the second half. Our back four were solid but Morison played better Tuesday.
